"I hope to work in designing and installing solar systems, especially for people in remote areas, or even overseas in poorer countries. I really want to help people who don't have the things (i.e electricity) that we just take for granted." Belinda Thorne, as a Fourth Year PV Student. |
Students who are studying year 12 in Australia (as a local or international student), or applicants considered to be an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or New Zealand citizen, are required to apply for admission to UNSW programs through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC).
Details of the application procedure, prior year UAI cut-offs, and application deadlines are all found on the UAC website.
Generally admission is based on an applicants UAI, however, if a student has previously undertaken tertiary studies, these may also be taken into consideration. Each year a UAI cut-off is determined for the program based on the number of places available, the number of applicants, and the quality of the applicants. Therefore the cut-off is subject to change each year, and is unknown until offers for admission are made. It is the students responsibility to ensure that they have the required assumed knowledge to satisfactorily undertake the first year of their program.
If students have previously completed, or partially completed tertiary studies either at UNSW or another tertiary institution, they may be eligible for advanced standing. Once an applicant has accepted an offer for an undergraduate program they should submit certified copies of their academic transcripts and course descriptions for the courses they wish to use for credit to:
Admissions Office (UAC)
The University of New South Wales
SYDNEY NSW 2052
AUSTRALIA
If your UAI is just below the formal cut-off it may still be possible to gain entry via the Faculty of Engineering Admission Scheme (FEAS), which usually involves an interview.
International students (except for those studying year 12 in Australia), should apply directly to UNSW through the International Office. Applications should be made online at https://apply.unsw.edu.au/ and can be tracked once submitted using this online facility. If students have any enquiries about this procedure they should call +61 2 9385 6996, or email internationaloffice@unsw.edu.au.
If an applicant has an enquiry once their application has been submitted, they can call Direct Admissions at UNSW on + 61 2 9385 3656, or email:

If students are applying for advanced standing for previous tertiary studies, in addition to submitting certified academic transcripts, they should also submit course descriptions for the courses they wish to use to obtain credit.
