Emergency Procedures

IMMEDIATE LIFE THREATENING EMERGENCIES

In the case of an emergency of immediate threat to life, such as a bomb, fire, or medical emergency:

1. Make the area safe if possible, otherwise leave immediately. For example: if there is power loss, disconnect the power source and tag it if time permits. For a small flood, evacuate immediate area.

2. Report all incidents and emergencies to UNSW Security on ext. 56666 from an UNSW internal phone, or toll free 1800 626 003 or 9385 6666 from an external phone.

3. Send a broadcast page by either:

  • calling 9385 9666 or 9430 6878, and tell them you want to send a broadcast page, or
  • email 514994.solar@e2m.hutch.com.au; type in the content of the broadcast page and send the email.

4. Take appropriate actions according to UNSW Emergency Procedures flip chart, which should be on display or available in all laboratories and offices.

NON-LIFE THREATENING EMERGENCIES

If the emergency is not an immediate threat to life, for example a small flood, or loss of power, do the following:

1. Make the area safe. For example: for loss of power, disconnect power source and tag it. For a small flood, evacuate immediate area.

2. Report to the Lab Development and Operations Team via pager:

  • call 9385 9666 or 9430 6878 and tell them you want to send a page to the Lab Development and Operations Team; or
  • send an email to 245286.solar@e2m.hutch.com.au

3. If necessary, report the problem to the Repair Book or New Project Book, both located in G13.

REMEMBER

  1. If in doubt, treat the emergency as life threatening.
  2. Any emergencies that need to be reported to either the UNSW OHS and Workers Compensation Unit and/or WorkCover NSW will be organised by the Lab Development and Operations Team: email 245286.solar@e2m.hutch.com.au
