The high efficiency solar cell group aims to maintain the Centre’s international leadership position in this area and to demonstrate the performance potential of new concepts by showing them at their full capability.

High-Efficiency Solar Cell on N-Type Silicon Substrates

This work aims to solve the degradation problem associated with cells on boron doped p-type CZ silicon substrates. The boron doping problem is avoided by using a PERT (passivated emitter, rear totally-diffused) cell structure on n-type silicon substrate.

High Performance from Topsil PV-FZ Silicon Substrates

PERL (passivated emitter, rear locally-diffused) cells have been fabricated on PV-FZ substrates made by the silicon wafer manufacturer Topsil. These cells demonstrated high open circuit voltages, fill factors and efficiencies.
